Joseph Tong has established a reputation as one of the most versatile and imaginative pianists of his generation. Much in demand as a soloist, duo pianist and chamber musician, Joseph made his Wigmore Hall debut in 1997 as winner of the Maisie Lewis Young Artists Award and now gives regular recitals throughout the UK and abroad.

Joseph’s ongoing Sibelius recording project has seen three CDs released on the Quartz label to critical acclaim. His Schumann album was selected as Instrumental Choice in BBC Music Magazine in 2019. Joseph has made several concert visits to Finland, including recitals at Ainola on Sibelius’s original Steinway, the Korpo Sibelius Festival, Camerata Hall, Helsinki and Hämeenlinna City Hall. Other recent highlights have included recitals in Germany and Spain, at Wigmore Hall in London, St George’s Bristol and the Joensuu Music Festival in Finland in 2024. Last summer, he returned to the Presteigne Festival to give the premiere of Koivunrungot Kaarella by Lara Poe in a programme titled The Piano in Nature, also featuring ‘Five Trees’ by David Matthews.

He is also a busy chamber musician, giving recitals with the violinist Fenella Humphreys with whom he recorded a disc of Sibelius for the Resonus Classics Label in 2020. The album was featured on Radio 3’s Record Review and selected as Chamber Choice in BBC Music Magazine.

Joseph was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in 2008 and is a visiting teacher at Wells Cathedral School, Hampton School and Junior Academy, RAM.
