The Forgotten Dead
The Three Daws Public House, Gravesend
In 1878, the paddle steamer Princess Alice set sail from Gravesend with 800 day-trippers. A live band was playing, and people had enjoyed a sunny day at pleasure gardens or on the South coast.
By nightfall, over 600 lives were lost in one of Britain’s worst maritime disasters — a story almost forgotten.
The Forgotten Dead brings this history vividly to life through immersive performance, live music, and a striking installation along Gravesend’s quayside. But this isn’t just a play— it’s an experience. Arrive, grab a drink, enjoy complimentary snacks, and let the live band set the mood before the performance begins. Then step into scenes of remembrance where history and storytelling come alive around you.
Join us in honouring the past while sharing an evening of connection, atmosphere, and powerful performance.
This project is a Co-Commission Project funded and supported by Creative Estuary. The Forgotten Dead is also made possible by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Gravesham Borough Council, and the Charles Burnett Memorial Fund. Huge thanks to all funders.

Hamlet - Outdoor theatre at Fort Gardens
Fort Gardens, Gravesend
HAMLET - "Though this be madness, yet there is method in’t!”
Join the critically-acclaimed Pantaloons Theatre Company as they put on a frantic disposition to tackle Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy in their own anarchic style.
When he discovers that his uncle has murdered his father, married his mother and traitorously taken the crown of Denmark there’s only one course of action for Hamlet: feign madness, frequently monologue and take swift revenge. But outrageous fortune has other plans for the poor Prince of Denmark...
With live music, audience interaction, brevity-boosting abridgements, comic turns and tragic twists there’s only one question: To be there, or to be square?
“If Shakespeare chose a modern company to perform his work then it would undoubtedly be The Pantaloons.” (North West End)
Bring your fold up chairs / cushions / blankets, a snack bar will be open in the gardens.
Twelfth Night - Outdoor theatre at Nurstead Court
Nurstead Court, Meopham
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
“If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction.”
Love, relationships and mistaken identity. Twelfth Night is Shakespeare’s bittersweet romantic comedy where no-one is quite who they seem. Shipwrecked on an unknown shore, Viola is separated from her twin brother Sebastian. She thinks he’s dead. He thinks she’s dead. And everyone else has no idea which one’s which.
Viola embraces a secret new identity by disguising herself as a boy to work for the Duke Orsino. She falls in love with him, but he’s already in love with Olivia. Olivia then falls for Viola thinking she’s Sebastian. Who’s who? Who’s in love with who? Confusion, misdemeanour and farce abound in this fast-paced comedy full of gender and sexual ambiguity, where none of the characters really know what’s going on!
Twelfth Night promises to be a highly entertaining show, with outstanding performances and amazing new music performed by Changeling’s talented and versatile cast.
“If music be the food of love, play on.”
