Each month we take pleasure in introducing one of Gravesham’s many creative souls. We ask them what inspires their work and seek out their personal cultural tips and highlights.

Precious Okungbowa - Content Creator

In your own words, how would you describe your creative work?

My creative work sees me as a content creator. I make engaging and interesting content for people online to consume.

This essentially means I wear many hats such as editor, director, producer and more. My niche is quite broad as a multi-faceted, I focus on interviews/vox pops, food reviews and lifestyle.

When did you first discover your passion for art/writing/photography?

I have always loved media from when I was in secondary school, I really loved English and creative writing. Then I pivoted into making videos on YouTube once I hit sixth-form as I wanted to remember my time during those formative years, so I would film videos with friends from debates to vlogging school trips etc. which I can look back at fondly.

I then studied media and communications at university and kept developing my passion for media and video and a couple years later I am trying to make this my full time job.

What's the creative process?

I come up with an idea and usually I flesh it out this is when I ask myself: what, why and how? This helps me better understand my vision and see if the idea is great to begin with.

I also take a lot of inspiration from the shows/pop culture. I watch a lot of shows from the 2000’s and I am trying to slowly find my own personal style when it comes to creating content.

Sometimes its also through conversations I have with friends and that also sparks an idea.

What does a typical day look like to you?

I start off at the gym, then I set myself tasks which I need to do. For instance, editing a piece of content I made or recording a voice over.

My days aren’t the same as I am fun employed so I find I need to create work otherwise I would get bored. But I use this time to really hone in on the skills I want to develop such as editing , filming etc. I truly like to push myself in these areas.

What have you learned most about yourself in recent times?

I am very resilient and hardworking and if I want something I will make it happen. This I don’t take credit for I give credit to God, it is because of him I still have strength. It isn’t always easy getting up especially in this current climate.

Do you have any wisdom you can share with others who are thinking of launching a creative business?

Do your research! Have you got the funds to pull this off?

Also tap into your network! My friends are literally the best as they help me film, they give me feedback and overall champion me when I am a bit harsh to myself.

What is on your mind right now?

I’m thinking of what new content I can film and upload ahahaha. The life of a content creator.
